Braemar Community Limited, a charitable trust established for the benefit of the community, undertook all the preparatory work to bring this project to fruition.
The project was developed through the formation of a Community Benefit Society – Braemar Community Hydro Limited – which is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the installation.
The installation was undertaken by the specialist hydro installer Highland Eco Design who were awarded the construction contract on a fixed price basis.
The hydro scheme occupies land which is leased from the landowner, Mar Estate. The lease also covers all land directly associated with the project.
Braemar Community Hydro Limited was incorporated and registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority as a Community Benefit Society number 7076 on 3rd February 2015. The Society’s Rules are based on Co-operatives UK’s Model Rules for a Community Benefit Society.
Braemar Community Hydro is completely focused on the operation of this hydro scheme and currently does not plan any further developments.
